Race Overview

The Endurance Challenge 100/50 is a point-to-point, fast & flat 100 mile and 50 mile urban ultra-marathon. The EC100/50 is one of the easiest 100/50 mile races on the West Coast, and is ideal for your first 50 or 100 mile race, whether you're a runner or walker, with a very generous 16-hour cut-off for the 50 mile race (11 p.m. on 10/17), and 32-hour cut-off for the 100 mile race (3 p.m. on 10/18). You'll also be supporting the 100 Mile Club, a non-profit organization with programs currently in over 1,000 schools throughout the U.S. that provides an opportunity for school kids to run/walk 100 miles during the school year, as all race proceeds will be donated to the 100 Mile Club.*

The race takes place from Saturday, October 17, 2015, to Sunday, October 18, 2015. The route for the Endurance Challenge 100/50 begins shortly after sunrise at 7:00 a.m. with a grand send off by energetic 100 Mile Club school kids from throughout Southern California at the 100 Mile Club headquarters in Norco, CA, aka "Horse Town, USA". Then it's "westward ho!" as we run through Corona to the start of the Santa Ana River bike path. Our first major check-point is in Anaheim at Mile 25, as we pass within a stone's throw from the iconic Anaheim Angels 210 ft. tall "Big A", and then it's straight to the Pacific Ocean, in Huntington Beach. When we hit the sand, we turn due north and run along the beach path, passing through the Beach Boys "Surf City, USA" Huntington Beach Pier on our way to the 50 mile finish line in Long Beach. (11 p.m. cut-off.)

From there the 100 mile runners continue north, passing by the Queen Mary in all it's nighttime splendor, and weave our way inland through various SoCal cities, including the renowned Rolling Hills Estates and Palos Verdes, joining the coast once again in Redondo Beach. The final 20 mile coastline stretch continues on the beach bike path past the Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach Piers, Dockweiler State Beach, Marina Del Rey, with a final push along the Venice boardwalk, finishing just steps from the world famous Santa Monica Pier. (32-hour cut-off at 3 p.m. on Sunday, 10/18.) Athletes who participate in the 100 mile event will run through three Southern California counties, traversing 22 cities.

This year the race is limited to a very lucky seventy (70) enthusiastic athletes that will race the clock and each other in this unique, fun and challenging event.

*Proceeds from EC100 go directly to the 100 Mile Club charity to support efforts to fight childhood inactivity and obesity and encourage children to seek out their personal best in school, at home, on the field, and in life. Course Description

The EC100 Ultramarathon offers an ideal course for all – the experienced ultrarunner who wants to set a new PR, as well as for the athlete who has done shorter races before who now wants to attempt to run 50 or 100 miles for the first time.

The course begins at the 100 Mile Club HQ in Norco, CA and travels across (mostly urban) Southern California to the Santa Monica Pier. The route of the EC100 passes through Corona before following the Santa Ana River Trail to the coast. From there, the runners continue along the Huntington Beach Bike Trail followed by Pacific Coast Highway. The event ends in Long Beach for those running the 50-mile event.

The course takes on a more rural feel through Palos Verdes before returning to the coast along the “Strand”. Those that make it through the night are able to experience both the sunset and sunrise as they run along the California coast. At the finish, runners experience textbook SoCal as they run through the wild and festive Venice Beach boardwalk and on toward the finish line at the beautiful and famous Santa Monica Pier.

What is the date, start time and finish line?

Both the EC100 and EC50 races start on October 17, 2015 at 7:00AM at the 100 Mile Club® headquarters (2191 Fifth Street, Suite 211, Norco, CA 92860)

Finish line:
EC50 ends in Long Beach, CA at the SeaPort Marina Hotel (6400 E Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach, CA 90803)
EC100 ends at the Santa Monica Pier (200 Santa Monica Pier # A, Santa Monica, CA)

Strategy

There is a 16-hour time limit for the EC50 and a 32-hour time limit for the EC100. *Mandatory Check-In Stations* Mandatory Check-In Stations will be available at the approximate 25, 50 and 75 (EC100 only) mile-marks. All EC100 athletes must check in and be weighed at each Check-In Station. Water and basic supplies will be available at each of the stations. *Sub Stations* Sub-stations will be placed approximately every 12.5 miles. It is not required to stop here but this is where crews should meet to aid runners. Time in/time out will be recorded and broadcast via twitter. *Meet-Me Stations* Meet-Me Stations will be approximately every 6 miles or so. This is where crew may congregate to catch runners, etc.

What are the crew requirements?

Because of the complexity of supporting a point-to-point urban event, this is a crew-supported race. At a minimum, runners must have a pacer starting at the 50-mile check-in station. Every runner must have his / her own pacer. Your pacer must be at least 18 years old. Adding more pacers and crew members with a car will increase your chances of finishing and likely improve your time. Note that you will need to provide your own transportation from the finish line. Runners will not be allowed to continue if they don’t have a pacer at the 50-mile check-in station. Your pacer can be on a bike. No exceptions. If you would like to run this race and lack pacers, please contact us.

Find crew and pacers
If runners are local, this can be as simple as making a few calls. However, this task is more difficult for those who live out of the area. If you are having trouble finding crew, please contact us. We want to help! Water, sports drinks and basic supplies will be available at each of the check-in stations. However, we recommend that you purchase your own drinks, food and supplies before the race and store them in your crew car.
