Description
The Fragrance Lake 10k/20k race traverses Chuckanut Mountain in Larrabee State Park, showcasing the most incredible and challenging trails on the mountain. The course begins at sea level and climbs up through sword ferns, mature cedar and Doug-fir forest to Fragrance Lake offering runners incredible forest and lake views. The 10k runners descend the Fragrance Lake Trail back to Larrabee State Park after running past Fragrance Lake.
Shortly after running past the lake, the 20k runners head up toward Chuckanut Ridge, climbing the infamous Chinscraper Trail, aka Black Diamond trail. At the top of Chinscraper is the 20k aid station (at Gates Overlook at the end of Cleater Road, also the halfway point in the race for the 20k).
From here the 20k runs on the stunningly scenic Chuckanut Ridge, where on a clear day you will have views of Bellingham, Mt. Baker, and the Cascade Mountain Range. After running for 2.5 miles on the ridge, the course veers back toward Cleater Road, Fragrance Lake Road, and back onto the Fragrance Lake Trail. From here runners descend a fun and fast single track trail back to the start/finish of the race at Larrabee State Park, crossing Chuckanut Drive to finish at the South Day Use Area.
