Waitlist
Mountain Mist 50km is officially closed, our final runner count is set and we will not be adding any more runners from the waitlist. We apologize in advance, but hope that if you didn't make it into the race, you will make it in next year when registration opens on October 1, 2013.
Course
This course consists of extremely rocky mountain trails, mud, and creek crossings, not to mention the 3526 feet of climbing!! There is a vertical climb on the course that requires the use of your upper body. Course maps can be found at here.
Start Time
Saturday January 26, 2013 at 7:30 am central sharp! You must check in the morning of the race.
Conditions
Expect anything...including cancellation due to inclement weather (the mountain can ice over)! Temperatures can range from 10 to 70 degrees Farenheit. The race may be cancelled due to snow and ice conditions. If roads are impassable the race may be cancelled. This situation is beyond our control and is not predictable. The decision to cancel the race will be made by the HTC board.
Directions
From I-65 take I-565 East to Memorial Parkway South. Continue South on the parkway and exit onto Governor's Drive. Turn left (East) on Governor's Dr. then drive through downtown and up the mountain. Turn left (North) at the stop light on top of the mountain onto Monte Sano Blvd. Continue on Monte Sano Blvd. to Nolen Dr., the entrance of Monte Sano State Park, which will be on the right (East) side of Monte Sano Blvd. Enter the park and the race start will be down on your right at the second road to your right in front of the Lodge.
Registration
Online entry at Ultra Signup.com will open on October 1, 2013 at 8:00am. No entry forms are being mailed this year. There is a 400 runner limit so register early!
You must have a Mountain Mist entry qualifier: Runners registering must have completed Mountain Mist 50km before or have finished another ultra (of any distance longer than 26.2 miles by definition) or have finished a marathon (road or trail) in under 4:40 in the past 24 months. Proof of these prior performances is required. Those demonstrating no previous endurance activities will be denied entry or have your entry to this race removed.
Registration Fee is $60 for non Huntsville Track Club Members. Registration will close on Nov. 30 or when 400 have registered. A special discount will be offered to Huntsville Track Club Members of $5. You must be a track club member before you sign up to receive the discount. If a non member selects the member price, you will be removed from the event with no refund of your application fee.
No refunds, ABSOLUTELY NO race day registration and NO race entry transfers to another runner. The race is prepared for 300 finishers and we take 400 plus HTC race directors. There will be a wait list after registration has been closed but there is no guarantee that anyone on the waitlist will be granted entry. Those not granted entry off of the waitlist will not be notified.
The race management reserves the right to deny entry to anyone not demonstrating an appropriate background in endurance activities which would allow them to complete this race in a safe and timely manner. The entry list will be updated weekly on Ultra Signup.
Special Rules
Please note: Due to our liability insurance and safety concerns the following are not allowed during the race: strollers, baby joggers, skateboards, bicycles, animals, rollerblades, headphones, unauthorized vehicles, unentered runners, etc. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Violators will be DISQUALIFIED.
Packet Pick Up
Packet pickup will be at the Monte Sano Lodge on Friday, January 25 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Race announcements will be made at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Lodge. Packets may also be picked up on race day from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the Monte Sano Lodge. Time Limits
There are three checkpoints on the course. Those who do not make the checkpoints in the allowed times will be removed from the course. NO EXCEPTIONS!

24.9 mi, Monte Sano Blvd. 6:20:00
TIME LIMITS STRICTLY ENFORCED! THIS IS NOT A HIKE! Cutoff times will be strictly enforced for your safety and to meet the state park guidelines. Any runner who continues after failing to meet the cutoff will be banned from future Mountain Mist Trail Runs.
Results
Race results will be posted at the Huntsville Track Club website and appear in Ultra Running Magazine.
Awards
There is no awards ceremony. You are responsible for picking up your award at the awards table inside the Lodge.
Open Men 39 U under: Top 10, Women top 3
Master Men 40-49: Top 10, Women top 3
Grand Master Men 50-59: Top 5, Women top finisher
60 and over Men: Top finisher, Women top finisher
Runners finishing under 8:15:00 will receive a special Smokey Mt. slate finishers' award! Pick up finisher award inside the Lodge at the awards table.
Prerace Dinner
The pre-race dinner will be held at the Monte Sano Lodge, January 25 at 6:00 p.m. During the dinner, guest speakers answer questions, describe the course in detail and share stories of past years.
Pre-paid tickets (ONLY) can be purchased for $10 for adults and $5 for those under age 12. This is not included in the entry fee.
Post Race Party
There will be a post race party at Duffy's Deli, located at 2324 Whitesburg Dr in Huntsville, AL. This is not included in the entry fee.
Lodging
The Holiday Inn Downtown is the official host hotel. Call early for reservations. Call 256-533-1400 and mention the Mountain Mist and the group code of PMM for yourspecial rate of $75 for the 2012 race. Also, reservations may be made online at www.holidayinn.com/huntsvilleal with the group code PMM, by mailing reservations, or individuals calling our 1-800-Holiday (465-4329) reservation line and asking for the group rate. Remember the group code is PMM. The cutoff date for the special rate is January 1, 2013.
There are 14 cabins in Monte Sano State Park within 1 mile of the start/finish line. Reservations: 256-534-3757. The park also has plenty of RV hookups and primitive camping.
Medical and Aid
The HEMSI HART Rescue Team www.HEMSI.org, and Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit www.HCRU.org will be providing medical / evacuation assistance again this year.
There will be six major aid/check-in stations equipped with the usual stuff, water, PowerAde, soda, candy, pretzels and junk. It is recommended that you carry at least one bottle of fluids with you the entire run.
