Description
The Georgia Death Race is a point-to-point ultra marathon trail race in North Georgia. The race is 60 miles with close to 30,000 feet of elevation change. The race starts at Vogel State Park and finishes some 60 miles later at Amicalola Falls State Park. The race follows unparalleled single track for approximately the first 40 miles. Starting the race at 4 am allows runners of all speeds to be on top of Duncan Ridge on the Duncan Ridge Trail. From here you will see the sun rise over the back of Brasstown Blad the highest point in Georgia. With the leaves being down the sunrise will light up the surrounding mountains and valleys that make up Norther Georgia. This in it self makes it worth it to run the race. The first 8 miles has close to 3,500 feet of elevation change. Including the 2,300 ft climb over 3.8 miles up to the summit of Coosa Bald (the hardest climb of the race).
Other course highlights include countless views from random points along the trail of mountains as far as you can see, the Toccoa Swinging Bridge, Amicalola Falls, the remote Benton Mackaye and Duncan Ridge Trails, and 40 miles of untouched single track. Not to mention this race is hard as nails. There is maybe only 2-3 miles total acutal flat on this race. If you like rugged single track this race is for you, if you like the mountains this race is for you, if you like up and down this race is for you, if you like to enjoy the beauty of nature when you run this race is for you, if you like pushing yourself this race is for you too. There are a hundred reasons to run this race so whats your excuse?
