Description
A two-day 50k – War at Windrock is an epic adventure of trail running that recreational athletes, elite runners, and everyone in between will not want to miss. Nestled in Windrock Park, just north of Oak Ridge, TN, runners will conquer a wild journey through single track trails of steep climbs, rugged terrain, and breathtaking mountain views (if you still have any breath left). Best of all, the race is routed directly through the wind farm- strictly off limits to the general public under normal circumstances- as Dirty Bird Events has gained exclusive access to this private area.
The race weekend will offer athletes the opportunity to enjoy Windrock Mountain in three ways: Move Fast, Get High, and Go Long. It’s an ultra distance in three stages, certain to push trail runners of all levels to the limit. Whether competing for the “Trailfecta” (recommended) or battling in just one or two races, we invite all participants to fight hard, have fun, and enjoy the War at Windrock.
Move Fast: 4 Mile Trail Run @ 9:00 am on Saturday, April 13th. This semi flat, fast course will allow competitors to showcase their inner speed demon. A great warm up for what is to come!
Get High: 10k Uphill Climb @ 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 13th. The 72,000 acre park is known for it's off-road recreational vehicle usage, but we are leaving the vehicles behind and tackling the elevation on foot. Your quads will be burning!
Go Long: 34k Trail Run @ 8:00 am on Sunday, April 14th. Experience the raw power and magnificent beauty first hand , as 18 wind turbines await the participants as they summit Buffalo Mountain. Have you ever ran through a windfarm?
War at Windrock is a one of a kind experience for athletes, sponsors, and volunteers alike. Live music, food, bonfire, and corn hole are all part of the festivities, so hang out between Battles and stay the weekend.
Primitive camping is available onsite, and you will be a short distance from the start and finish line. The cost to camp is $5 per person, per night. RV sites and cabins are also available for additional fees.
If you would like to join us for the Carbo Dinner, tickets can be purchased during registration as well. The cost of the meal tickets are $5 each. Dinner will be served at 4:45 pm on April 13th after the 10k Uphill Climb.
