A group of dedicated volunteers, in conjunction with the Potomac Highlands Distance Club, aims to put a second ultra marathon on the 2013 club calendar in Emporium, Pa., in Cameron County. The race site is located about 2.5 hours north of Altoona and two hours north of State College. The trail races will be conducted mostly on Pennsylvania Department of Conservation's Elk State Forest lands.
A working name is the Sinnemahoning 50K, 25K and 2-person relay, although like almost everything, even the name has yet to be finalized. What is known, however, is that the course will generally be a single-loop course, start in or near downtown Emporium and include much of the Bucktail Path in Elk State Forest.
The name Sinnemahoning means “Stony Lick” in the Lenape language.
