About the race
The 50K race takes you on a challenging, out-and-back route on the rugged New River section of the Cumberland Trail. This section crosses the high point of the trail, Cross Mountain, at over 3000’. Be prepared - this course could take up to twice your PR for a 50k. The climb up Cross Mountain is steep and will be slow. Start time for the 50K will be 6:30 am.
Runners registering for the 50K event must have finished, within the past two years, either a 50k in under 8 hours, or a longer ultramarathon race. Those demonstrating no such previous endurance activities will be denied entry. All entries will be subject to race director’s discretion.
Start time for the 10K will be 8:00 am. The 10K race will follow the 50K course to a 3.1 mile turn around point and then returns to Cove Lake State Park.
The 50k course is 80% single-track trail and 20% gravel road. The course starts near the pool area and then runs through Cove Lake State Park, using approximately 9.3 miles of the Cumberland Trail before diverging off the trail and onto ATV and gravel road the rest of the way to the halfway point. It returns to the finish using the same route.
The 10K course starts at Shelter 3 (the finish area for both races) and runs through Cove Lake State Park, then out and back on the Cumberland Trail.
Both events will share the same finish back in Cove Lake State Park.
These events are fund raising activities for the Cumberland Trail Conference, and we try to keep the awards and goodies to a reasonable expense. However; we can now announce that Hoka and Fleet Feet of Knoxville are teaming up to donate a free pair of Hoka One One's for the overall winners, male and female, in both the 50K and 10K!! How cool is that?!
