Description

Welcome to the TENTH year of our event at the beautiful Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas. The Active Joe brought North Texas its first 100 miler, and we continue to grow every year! We offer 5 distances so there's a challenge for every interest level.

In all these distances, you’ll be among other amazing athletes challenging themselves. There are lots of gradual up and downhills that add up, and a mix of terrain between soft dirt, rocks, and roots. Some parts are technical while other parts are super runnable. This is a pretty hilly 100 miler by Texas standards, and the terrain can trip you up as you fatigue. Use that first loop through the course to settle into a pace for the race and not go out too fast.

Race Start Options (A Change for 2026)

100 mile: Must start Saturday at 7 am.
100K: Must start Saturday at 7 am.
50K: Must start Saturday at 8 am.

There are multiple SEPARATE race opportunities for the 25K and 5 Mile. You can only run in the races you are specifically signed up for.
Saturday, 8 am: Triassic 25K and Triassic 5 Mile.
Saturday, 8 pm: Jurassic 5 Mile.
Sunday, 8 am: Cretaceous 25K and Cretaceous 5 Mile.

The Mesozoic era in prehistoric times was made up of 3 time periods:
* Triassic Period (251.902 to 201.4 million years ago)
* Jurassic Period (201.4 to 143.1 million years ago)
* Cretaceous Period (143.1 to 66 million years ago)

For those who are "in their Mesozoic era", we will have a special reward for our Mesozoic Maniacs who complete the 5 Mile in ALL THREE PERIODS - so that's a 5 mile Saturday 8 am, 5 miles again Saturday 8 pm, then 5 miles one last time Sunday 8 am! Perfect for crew members of the longer distances! And save money by signing up for all 3 5-milers at one time - choose "Mesozoic Maniac" from the "distance" options during registration.

Our 100K and 100 Miler is a qualifying race for Western States Endurance Run

Our 100K and 100 Miler are both Western States qualifying races!!! Qualifying times aren't announced until September, so the following is based on the current qualifying times: If you complete the 100K distance in under 22 hours, you earn your qualifier for the next year’s lottery. This includes those who pass the 100K mark (same course as the 100K) in the 100 mile distance in under 22 hours since all 100 milers get a recorded 100K finish. All those who finish the 100 miler under 35 hours will get a qualifier. So qualify in the 100K distance OR the 100 mile distance.

We focus a lot on inclusion and diversity initiatives, so our race being a qualifier will also add more diversity into the lottery and ultimately the start line of the race!

We are part of the Trail Mix Fund!

Do you want to race but can’t afford the entry fee? Are you a part of the BIPOC or LGBTQ+ community? Apply to the Trail Mix Fund to have your registration fee waived. You can learn more on the website: https://trailmixfund.org/

In an effort to improve the diversity in trail racing and remove a potential barrier for the under-served and under-represented, we've partnered up with the Trail Mix Fund, a 501(3)c non-profit. While we all like to think this sport is accessible – “you just need a pair of shoes” – that just isn’t always the case. The Trail Mix Fund is available to anyone wanting to run a race who could use some assistance in paying for it and for those from the BIPOC & LGBTQ+ communities. During registration, we are accepting donations to their organization. All donations made here go directly to the Trail Mix Fund, not to this race. Please consider helping this organization by donating!

Even 100 Milers will get a 100K finish!

Because the 100 Miler's last 5 mile loop is at the end of the race, both 100K and 100 milers will come through the finish line area at the 100K mark doing the exact same course. We record everyone's 100K split, regardless of distance registered for, as an actual 100K finish because you completed 100K. 100 milers who drop out of the race before 100K will show as a DNF. 100 milers who drop out of the race before their 100 mile finish but after 100K will not show a DNF because of the 100K recorded finish, and they will receive a 100K buckle. All 100 milers who finish out the full 100 mile distance will get a 100 mile buckle instead of a 100K buckle but will also have a recorded 100K finish!
