Wildly Beautiful.
The Over the Rainbow Runs are a pair of trail races, roughly 10K and Half Marathon in length, set among the bluffs above the charming town of Kanab, Utah, ancestral homeland of Pueblo and Southern Paiute people.
We're going for a "Saturday morning with friends" vibe - low key, high enthusiasm, inclusive to all, with more beauty and adventure than you can shake a stick at.
The runs are a USATF-sanctioned event.

Beneficiary
The Over the Rainbow Runs are entirely volunteer-run, with all proceeds benefitting a local non-profit organization. Our primary beneficiary is the Friends of Kane County Children's Justice Center, an organization that provides legal, medical, and mental health services for local vulnerable youth.
Our prices are intentionally below market value because we want it to be accessible. If you would like to donate more to the Friends of Kane County Children's Justice Center, you have the option to do so at check-out!
Course
Both runs will start and finish adjacent to Jacob Hamblin Park in the heart of Kanab.
If you were to stand in Kanab, pointing to where the trail would go, your finger would make an arc like a rainbow...up one side of the bluff, rolling across the top, then down the other side. Do it another time in reverse and you've got a "Double Rainbow!" Hence, the Over the Rainbow Runs.
The course has it all: it is 75% single-track, 20% ATV roads, and 5% city streets, and is mostly dirt with some soft sand, and 2 small rock scrambles. Parts are very technical in nature and are likely to be power-hiked. The 10K features 1,152 feet of vert and the Half Marathon sports 2,324 feet.
Cutoff for both races is 6 hours.
Elevation profile is for 10K; Half Marathoners will do this, then follow it back in reverse (plus a small, flat extension loop in each direction to make up the extra distance).
Refunds
There are no transfers or refunds. Since our overhead is pretty static and all our proceeds go to charity, we do not refund fees.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice
We value diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice highly and make every effort to make our event accessible and welcoming to as many people as possible. We encourage people from communities generally underrepresented in trail running to join us.
Our races have generous cutoffs so that people of different ages and ability levels can join us for a fun day on trail.
We offer divisions for women, men, and non-binary/genderqueer folks, and we will honor the division selected by each runner.
We have the ability to offer discounts to those who wouldn't be able to afford the event, and we particularly value giving this option to economically marginalized groups, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+ folx, and people with disabilities. Please contact us if you are in need.
Sustainability
We minimize waste at our events in all ways possible. This is a CUPLESS race. Please bring your own cup and snack container. Aid station volunteers will serve food out of bulk sources.
We ask all runners to follow "Leave No Trace" principles, including no littering on course (watch those gel tops!), and taking care of human waste appropriately on course.
Aid Stations
We will have a variety of sweet & salty snacks typical of trail races: potato chips, fruit, cookies, candy, electrolyte drink, and water.
Please remember to bring your own cup and food vessel (bag, other cup, etc.)
- Cliff Aid: Mile ~3.5/4 (10K & Half Marathon)
- Start/Finish: Mile ~7 (Half Marathon)
- Cliff Aid: Mile ~10 (Half Marathon)
Swag
Finishers will receive an Over the Rainbow Runs trucker cap, pint glass, or neck gaiter.
We will also honor the person who is out on course the longest (the “DFL” award). This prize usually includes a toy dinosaur.
Post-Race Hangout
After the race, all runners will be treated to our burrito bar (vegan and other food needs can be accommodated) and a nice atmosphere cheering runners in to the finish!
We also hold a swag raffle for anyone who stays to cheer on the "Dead Freakin' Last" last runner!
