See the best of Akron, Ohio!
What if there was a Marathon that started downtown and then showed off the Metro Parks? The inaugural Akron Trail Marathon does just that! You will start at Memorial Parkway trailhead, run a quick out & back into the city, then head to Summit Metro Parks. Along the way you will get to experience a beautiful hilly section of the Towpath Trail that heads out of the city, the historical locks, the Mustill Store, and waterfalls!
The course follows the locks out of downtown and then heads north on the Towpath to Schumacher Trail. From there you will head to the scenic Overlook (don't stop too long!), dip into the little known Babb Run Park, through Cascade Valley, then to Gorge Metro Park and back the way you came.
We will have a total of 7 water stops roughly 3-4 miles apart. We will have water & sports drink, gels, and some snacks at the Highbridge turnaround. It is advised that you carry a handheld water bottle, as it will most likely be hot & humid in mid July. We would also like to use as few cups as possible to help out our enviroment.
Covid 19 protocols
We will have a staggered start at this year's Akron Trail Marathon. Your start times will be sent to you once registration is closed. Because we want to have a safe and fun event, we must adhere to the social distancing protocols set by the state. This will be done partly by the staggered start and partly by the course design. All participants and volunteers will be required to self assess the morning of the race. If you have a fever or any symptoms of Covid 19 you will not be able to participate. All runners will be expected to wear a mask at the start line and it is recommended that you carry a handheld water bottle- for your safety and also because FGRC wants to keep our parks clean of litter!
