Overview

Striders Reservoir Run
Half Marathon | 10K | Lollipop Loop (2.4 mi)

Saturday, September 9, 2023

The Stevens Creek Striders have been running and volunteering at the Reservoir for more than 40 years, and we're thrilled to be able to share these trails with you for Half Marathon, 10K, and Lollipop (2.4 mi) race distances. You will run or walk through our favorite trails, from the cool shaded single track of Tony Look to the open vistas of Coyote Ridge.

The Striders Reservoir Run is a wonderful introduction to trail running for road runners, yet it promises to be challenging enough for the most experienced trail & ultrarunners. Please note that the half marathon has several steep ascents – it’s a tough and rewarding course, and there are aid stations every few miles to help you on your way.

This race is hand-timed, using Ultrasignup timing software. It is capped at 150 runners across the Half Marathon and 10K.
Participants in the Lollipop Loop charity run/walk and children’s race (2.4 mi) will register on the day of the event.

Start Times & Cutoff Times

Start Times:
- Half Marathon: 9:00 AM
- 10K: 9:00 AM
- Lollipop Loop: 9:15 AM

There are no early starts.

Cutoff Times:
The event will conclude at 1:00 pm.
For the Half Marathon, there is a cutoff at the Tony Look Aid Station (Mile 6.7) at 11:00 am.
This corresponds to a roughly 18 min/mi pace.
If you do not continue past Tony Look, then we will consider you to be a 10K finisher, and an "unofficial finish" will be recorded.

There is no cutoff for either the 10K race or the Lollipop Loop.

Lollipop Loop

The Lollipop Loop is a charity run / walk and children’s race of approximately 2.4 miles. The course traces Stevens Creek and the Stevens Creek Reservoir, with a small loop at the halfway point where runners will grab a Lollipop as proof of distance. The route is largely shaded and mostly flat, with two short climbs at the start and end and one descent.

Pacers for younger runners are recommended.

Entry Fees

- Half Marathon: $65 / $75
- 10K: $50 / $55
--- Stevens Creek Striders club members are eligible for a 10% discount. Prior to registering, request a discount code via the “Ask a Question” feature.
--- Prices will rise on July 31st. Add an additional $5 on Race Day, if not sold out.

- Lollipop Loop:
--- $7 recommended donation, benefitting Trees not Tees (see “Trees not Tees” section for more information)
--- Registration will be open on Race Day only. Please bring cash for your donation.

Note: Due to the many upfront costs in permitting a race and ordering product, we do not offer refunds on race entry.

Aid Stations / Water Bottle & Cup-Free Policy

All aid stations will include water, electrolyte drink, energy gels, granola bars, chips, and chocolates / candies.
They will be located approximately at the following mile markers:
- Half Marathon: 3.5 mi, 6.7 mi, 8.3 mi, 11.3 mi, 13.1 mi (finish)
- 10k: 3.5 mi, 5.1 mi, 6.9 mi (finish)

All runners are strongly encouraged to carry a water bottle. For long-time trail runners, this is probably clear already. For newer runners, please consider that you will likely push yourself harder than during training runs and that a trail / hill run requires more sustained input than does a flat road run of equivalent distance.

Note: In an effort to reduce our environmental footprint, disposable cups will not be provided.

BBQ

After your race, we’ll be serving burgers in the Villa Maria picnic area. Relax while you take satisfaction in your finish. This is the perfect place to cheer for and congratulate your friends – those you knew before and those you met on the trail.

Awards & Swag

- Great swag, including a custom race shirt, as well as product from sponsors Altra, Rabbit Running Gear, Spring Energy, and Squirrel Nut Butter.
- The top three finishers for each gender in the Half Marathon and 10k will receive a prize.
- There will be finisher certificates for all participants in the Lollipop Loop race.
- Additional custom Striders swag will be available for purchase at the race, while supplies last.

Trees not Tees

Trees with Tees partners with races to improve climate by planting and nurturing trees, at a cost of $7 per tree. If this is a cause that you’d like to support, you’ll have the option to donate at check-out or at the race. Additionally, all proceeds from the Lollipop Loop will be donated.

After the race, you’ll receive a certificate with your tree photo, species, and what3words geolocation.
