Race Description
Description
The Freight Train 50k/100k is a companion race to the summertime Night Train 50k. It takes place on the same trail but takes place on May 9th, 2026. The course features a Half Marathon, a 50k and 100k option. It is a relatively flat rail trail. There is a slight incline in each direction as you leave the starting line. Total elevation gain is less than 1500 feet for the 100k. If the weather cooperates, this should be a fast course. The race begins at 7:30am and ends at 1:30am on the 9th. There is a 19 hour time limit for the 100k. The only time limit for 50k runners is that they have to finish before the 19 hour cutoff for the 100k runners. This makes it a great first time Ultra! All runners will pass over the famed “High Bridge” twice during their run.
Course Description
100K
Runners older than 60 years old who wish to have a pacer for a longer period may do so by contacting the Race Director ahead of time. Crew members should park in designated spaces only.
Awards
All finishers will receive a handcrafted pottery award. Top 3 males and females in each distance will also receive a different award. Top Grand Master Male and Female (60+) in each distance will be recognized. DFL will also receive awards.
We also offer discounts for groups. If you will be running in a group of 5 or more email me ahead of time for a discount code.
Understand that by signing up you are registering for a Spring Ultra. The weather could be 65 degrees or it could be pouring rain. We do our best to hold events however sometimes a postponement is necessary. There are no refunds. A one time deferral is allowed by communicating with the RD. you then pay 25% of the original fee when you register again. In the event of a cancelation beyond our control we will attempt to roll you over to next year. Refunds are not possible in the event the entire event is canceled.
The last day to register and be guaranteed a current shirt is April 10th. Registrations after that date will either be provided a shirt if there are extras or be given a shirt from a previous year. This is due to supply chain issues and needing to order shirts a month in advance
New this year is a half marathon. The Half Marathon begins at 9am at the Farmville Train Station. Runners head east on the trail 6.55 miles to a turnaround just past Camp Paradise. This is a manned, water only station. They turn around and head back to the finish.

Quiet Start
We understand that starting lines can be incredibly stressful for some individuals. The noise, number of people and proximity to others may create difficult situations. If you select the Quiet Start option, you will begin the race 5 minutes after the other runners. This will not impact your finish time (in other words, you will be starting on a wave 5 minutes after everyone else). This gives you the chance to start with less noise and people around you.
