This Event Took Place Sat. Sep 16, 2023

A Southern California Trail Classic

Set in the rugged and scenic mountains of eastern San Diego County, the Noble Canyon 50K & 15K Trail Races deliver a high-desert adventure steeped in raw beauty and trail running grit. Whether you're chasing an ultra challenge or testing your speed on the shorter course, this race offers an unforgettable experience through the Cleveland National Forest — a wild and protected landscape that feels miles away from the city bustle.

This USATF-sanctioned event is operated under a special permit on National Forest land, with the USDA as an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender.

Course Description

Both courses start and finish at 8631 Pine Creek Road in Pine Valley, CA. The 50K begins at 6:30 AM with a mandatory pre-race briefing at 6:15 AM. Runners can expect a rugged out-and-back journey through the historic Noble Canyon Trail system — a course known for its rocky climbs, exposed ridgelines, and fast descents. The terrain is technical and varied, featuring stretches of pine forest, open granite-studded slopes, and canyon switchbacks that offer sweeping views of the Laguna Mountains.

The 15K kicks off at 7:30 AM after a 7:15 AM briefing and provides a shorter, but still challenging taste of the same rugged terrain. It's perfect for newer trail runners or those looking for a fast and scenic mountain race.

Elevation gain is significant on the 50K, rewarding those who come prepared for a true mountain ultra. With temperatures that can shift quickly, runners should be ready for heat in the canyons and crisp winds at higher elevations.

Aid Station and Support

Runners will be supported by a team of dedicated volunteers across multiple well-stocked aid stations (locations and exact mileage will be shared in the race packet). Expect hydration, electrolytes, and essential fueling options to keep you going through the ups and downs of the course.

Course volunteers also assist with safety across highway crossings, shuttling supplies, and helping runners stay on track throughout the event.

Moctezuma Photography will be on course capturing the action. Each participant will receive one free race photo or $9 off selected purchases. And keep an eye out for video coverage from Robin Martin—be sure to wave and smile!

Runner Experience

Race parking opens at 5:00 AM, with on-site parking available and directed by staff.

The vibe is low-key, runner-focused, and built around the joy of running hard in a beautiful place. Whether you're pushing for a PR or soaking up your first trail race, the Noble Canyon atmosphere will lift your spirits all the way to the finish line.

Practical details

15K On-Site Registration closes at 7:00 AM sharp, so plan to arrive early if you're registering day-of. Pre-race briefings take place at 6:15 AM for the 50K and 7:15 AM for the 15K.

Weather in the Cleveland National Forest can be unpredictable. Runners should come prepared for a range of conditions, including heat in the lower canyons and cooler, breezy temperatures at higher elevations. Proper hydration, sun protection, and trail-ready gear are strongly recommended.

Volunteer Opportunities

These races wouldn’t be possible without the help of an incredible volunteer team. If you're interested in giving back to the trail community — whether through course marking, sweeping, aid station support, highway safety, or logistics — we’d love to have you on board!
